There were heaps of birds on the 8 km (5 mile) walk along Mason
Beach. Lots of seagulls, which in their native element are
quite
beautiful and as pictured above and below are oystercatchers.
I
have to say I've never seen them catch an oyster, but they are always
poking around on the beach. The all-black birds are called
variable oystercatchers and the two-colored birds are pied
oystercatchers
This is a bellbird. A
small bird with a
song that seems hard to believe that it can come from such a small
package. There is no mistaking a bellbird when you hear it.
The first time I heard one call I said, "That has to be a
bellbird." No doubts about it at all.
