This is the sight that greets you as you approach Centre Pass from the south.  The pass is on the left side of the picure and is surprisingly steep near the top.  The track is right at the bottom of the picture below the pass.  To the right of the pass is Mt.Memphis in profile, the top of which isn't visible, but it goes up much higher than can be seen from this vantage point.  

To the south, which is the right side of the picture, is a great view of the top of Tripod Hill.  You can see where the track comes up (near the tarns) and the really steep part of the climbs have just ended.  It was quite muddy in this region with more mud to come between here and the pass.
