After walking through the open tops
for what
seems forever, you eventually catch a glimpse of the ocean below.
This is just before the descent towards Doughboy Bay.
The
section of beach on the left is Doughboy Beach but that is the southern
section of the beach. The hut is below the hill on the right.
Oh, and the ridges you see, they went on as far as one could
see
to the south.
Here is your truly, aka Mr. Moose, just after arriving at the hut in
Doughboy Bay. I'm still wearing my muddy gaiters, tramping
jacket, and trusty cycling cap. Notice how long my jacket is?
New Zealand tramping jackets are often longer than their
counterparts from other countries are they are designed for truly wet
conditions. This jacket, a Macpac Resolution, is
particularly long. It allows me to wear my skimpy running shorts
so that I can stay cool but is long enough to stay dry in a heavy
rain with a backpack on. When I was looking at rainjackets at
home, they were all waist-length. The only jackets I'll consider
are made in NZ.
